Helen Hailes received her Ph.D in 1991 at Cambridge in the area of biological Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Jim Staunton. She then pursued post-doctoral work at Cambridge working on polyketide enzymes, and at Imperial College London on combinatorial and solid-phase chemistries. She joined the Department of Chemistry University College London as a Lecturer in 1994, becoming a Senior Lecturer in 2002, a Reader in 2005, and Professor of Chemical Biology in 2010. Research activity is focused on the development of new sustainable synthetic and biocatalytic strategies towards chiral synthons.
